Essay - Should homosexual couples be allowed to adopt children?

Dear readers,

Couples usually look for the same interests when they have some kind of stability; it could be a project, a mortgage or something more complex, as adopt a child. This process gives an opportunity to some women who are unable to have descendant and children who don’t have a family to make one, as well as a chance to homosexual couples to have their own children. Despite some groups consider adoption negative for the child on homosexual families, due to the fact that the pattern of mother and father is absent, this process gives the possibility to some couples to achieve their life’s dream of having a baby, and let they show how good parents they can be.

Sometimes it happens that the child lose their parents or the birth parents don’t have enough resources to maintain their son and they have to opt for this hard process in which a child is given to other different family, in order to expect for him a better life. This system is more common in disadvantaged countries than in developed ones, doubt to the lack of resources. Nevertheless, nowadays more families decide to adopt despite not being unable to have children, just as a way to give an opportunity to a child before or after having their own.

There are different ways to adopt a child, but the most well-known is when the family has to make contact with an agency and then depending on the requirements of the country choose the one they want to adopt from. It could be a long process if it follows the usual line, but there are other alternatives such as the Green Ticket in China which allows the family to adopt a child with special needs and it is faster than the ordinary one. But unfortunately, it is not the more used.

Nonetheless it is a very arduous work and most of the times couples feel upset because they have to pass many tests, and sometimes think they are unable to have a baby because the requirements are not available for them, especially if it is internationally. But it all change when they have their baby or child because they just want to do their best.

We haven’t had into account in all said before any advantage or disadvantage about the genre of the couples. Because a family shouldn't have these connotations, it is a unified group which has to be able to care about their components as if they were the last human beings on Earth. We are all individuals, with the same rights including the pursuit of happiness without discrimination. This means that homosexual families should have the possibility to rescue a child avoiding him to live in an orphanage and giving him a chance to live how he deserves.

Quotation

Dear readers,

Some days ago we started to learn how to quote in class. We spoke about the necessity to quote because of plagiarism, one of the ills which affects our society, it is defined as taking someone's ideas and passing them off as yours. At first, it could seem that this fact is not relevant, thinking about the use of many students make copying some ideas for essays and other stuff, but each time more and more eminent musicians, politicians and teachers use that kind of resource in order to give an extra quality to their compositions.

I'm going to show you a case of plagiarism I have found on the internet. Barack Obama was accused of literally copying some phrases by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick speech, but not only applying quotes from him in his speech, also Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy quotations and some of them from the Declaration of Independence, despite the false impression, fortunately, the governor considered it as an unimportant misunderstanding.

But it doesn't finish here. Plagiarism has no national barriers. However, not all cases are expected to end as Barack Obama one. In order to gain appreciation Lucía Etxebarria, the famous Spanish writer, intentionally decided to copy full sociologist Jorge Castelló paragraphs in her book. When she was found, she alleged to have copied, and then she had to pay a 3000 euros compensation as well as recognize the incorrectly use of these materials.

Genre violence

Introduction paragraph:

Although women do two-thirds of the world's labour nowadays, genre violence continue being an important issue. Each time more and more women are threatened by exploitation, and exposed to the worst conditions with the only justification of being more vulnerable than men. Given women more education, work, the ability to control their own income, and inherit property will benefit the society.

Concluding paragraph:

Women are fifty one percent of human kind. Empowering them will benefit society more than investing on technology or new researches. It is a fact that is easier to abuse women and children than men. That's why women need to be able to have more representation and to be more respected than in the past. More confident women energy and critical thought is necessary in this current world.

Keep our eyes on the prize

Dear readers,

As every Sunday, I have been watching a TED Talk. Not all the times I take advantage of these monologues, though I enjoy watching them because they are based on real life and they try to explain common facts that take place nowadays, which are not usually very interesting, however their reflections about them catch my attention.

The one I see today deal with the the problem of losing weight, and the strategies used by Emilie Balcetis, a social psychologist who is very interested in that issue, she wonders why two different people can see diverse interpretations of the same thing. I was amazed of what she tell us about vision, the way we have to see what surround us, that's what she sums up on: how we see the world through our mind's eye.

She exposes the current necessity of more and more people have about getting back into shape and the dissimilarities of results depending on the intensity of their motivations and goals. She tries to states reasons of why some people see exercise harder than others. After some experiments, she realised that people in shape are able to see a distance they have to run with extra weight shorter than others. Her resolution was that mind and body work in tandem.

Finally, she explain the phrase: Keep the eyes on the prize helped by supporting statements based on percentages about how having a concrete goal and being concentrate on it could help you to have a different vision on exercise even if you do it harder. Her last reflection was we can see things in other way just if we want to.

Here you have the talk if after that words you want to watch it.

Thesis statement

Dear readers,

I'm very interested in cooking and taking advantage of tonight I'm going to see one of my favourites programs, Top Chef, I would like to share with you through a thesis statement what I think about this broad field, as cooking is. And especially, haute cuisine, which nowadays is a theme of conversation in multiple magazines, newspapers and social nets.

Controversial debate: Is haute cuisine overrated?

Thesis statement: Sitting in a Michelín star restaurant table is not affordable for everyone. But it is considered not only as a gastronomic experience but also as a sensory and aesthetic moment. That's why paying much more than in other restaurant is not out of context. Behind the kitchen there are the best quality products, a careless manipulation, as well as an excellent table with a 100% linen tablecloth, handmade wineglasses, and of course, a big staff taking care of every single detail and trying to involve their guests in an unforgettable travel to the flavours' world.

First impressions

Dear readers,

Some days ago we talked in class about first impressions. It called my attention because immediately I thought about many people I've met and my first impression of them unfortunately or fortunately was not very good, in fact most of the times it was terrible. It is said that only 30 seconds are required for making a first impression of someone we've just met and some studies say we don't fail too much with our first impressions which are based on some aspects as physical appearance, accessibility, expectations, or mood.

My current best friend is one of these examples. When I first met him, I hated him. I didn't know how to explain why but I thought he was self-important and arrogant, and he hadn't mentioned any word before I said quietly to me those thoughts. What annoys me was that I didn't use to judge nobody in a first impression, but it was happening and I felt guilty with myself later on. He was my classmate and I hated him. Aurelio fit in class very well, so I decided to give him another change. I took into account tastes of people change as time passes, because it had happened to me before, thus I thought he might be a kind person but I couldn't see it.

I argued a lot with him, but I admired the way he talked to me, because he wasn't nervous and he was self-confident when he talked and it didn't matter the topic or the moment of the day. He was like pleased to discuss with me. I'm not saying that I enjoyed arguing, but I prefer people who give his or her point or view, instead of being without saying anything. And, if he didn't think the same as me, then it means there will be a good point of discussion.

Nowadays he is my best friend and I can say it by heart. I don't remember when we became friends, but I think it doesn't matter, because now we are like jam and bread. I fell really good when I am with him, he never hurts nobody and he always takes care of me. Every weekend we see each other is like a breath of fresh air to me, he is the comforting view you see after the hard work of climbing a mountain. And probably, if  he had told me all that when we first met, I wouldn't have believed it.What I want to demonstrate with all that is the few value that first impressions have to me.

Dear readers,

This morning I was wondering myself about Encarni, my extraordinary maths' teacher who tried to help me tirelessly with the subject for two years. I haven't got enough words in appreciation for all the hours she has dedicated to me, but like she said, never wasted. Although I wasn't the best student, (what doesn't mean I didn't study), I always tried to do my best. But I was awful at maths, I probably was the worst student she has ever had in all her career. However, she encouraged me to think I could achieve all I proposed me to do.

I have such a good memory of her. She was a nice person, perhaps one of the best people I met. She was comprehensible, and all the students decided to go to her to telling their problems, because she recommended to everyone (who wanted), what to do in a difficult situation and then she didn't expect nothing in return. It wasn't a usual academy, it was a place to learn, not only maths but about life. I appreciate it a lot, because I hate maths and I could look through the window and see there was something behind this map of number, something I will enjoy in a future.

From the stay with Encarni, I could learn many of her interests. She wanted a place for women in society, and she took advantage to every single opportunity to let us think about it. She didn't have any children, and everyone asked why, doubt to we saw in her the mother we wanted to be in a future. Until the day she told us she was in adoption process. Suddenly she was very sad, she was waiting to her baby for many years, but she didn't know anything yet about him or her. Fortunately, some days ago she told us she already had Xu, a beautiful four years Chinese boy. I'm sure she is want to be an excellent mother. I will tell you more things about the process when she came the China.

“The only escape from the miseries of life are music and cats...” ― Albert Schweitzer

Dear readers,

Rainy days remember me to Charles Bukowski. It is difficult to explain why, as it is difficult to understand his literature, his way of expressing feelings and transmitting them to others. I discovered this author last year when a friend of mine published some of his quotes in a social net. It was like finding a treasure on the seabed. For me, he is the personification of my more complicated feelings into words. I can't consider his way of life as the most advisable but nobody with an admissible behaviour could write in that way, because some kind of mental disorder is required for putting some light in the darkness and obtain this mixture of sadness, sarcasm, and sometimes drugs and alcohol as a final and excellent result.

I have decided to share with you this poem because I have always had animals at home, in fact lots of them, and I have had the opportunity to analysed their different ways of life. I consider cats as the most intelligent animals until now. I have learnt many things from them as independence and dependence at the same time, intelligence and cleverness as well as their capacity to calculate and their environmental adaptation. But probably that's only the beginning and they have more things to teach me. As Charles Bukowski said once: 'The more cats you have, the longer you live. If you have a hundred cats, you'll live ten times longer than if you have ten. Someday this will be discovered, and people will have a thousand cats and live forever'.

My Cats

I know. I know.
they are limited, have different
needs and
concerns.
but I watch and learn from them.
I like the little they know,
which is so
much.
they complain but never
worry,
they walk with a surprising dignity.
they sleep with a direct simplicity that
humans just can’t
understand.
their eyes are more
beautiful than our eyes.
and they can sleep 20 hours
a day
without
hesitation or
remorse.
when I am feeling
low
all I have to do is
watch my cats
and my
courage
returns.
I study these
creatures.
they are my
teachers.
- Charles Bukowski

Arranged marriages

Dear readers,

When you delete on the internet: mundial problems, the first page you will find will be 'who: violence against women'. I wasn't able to understand why nowadays this is the biggest issue in the world. Last year I did a research about a new law which was approved in Pakistan, and that statue let girls of less than 9 years old getting married with men, but that's not all, the law allow men to do whatever they want with 'her' girl. The act was supported and refuted for many entities. Lawyers and organizations which support women rights worked very hard to reject it. Despite the legal age for getting married is 16 years old in women, Unicef said more than 70 percent of girls do that before the legal age, doubt to arrangements and arguments between families.

One solution to the problem of arranged marriages is denounce the situation, as a man who has had access to education can do that in the court. While many families admit the issue, it won't disappear. This kind of laws comes from the tradition which is supported for most part of the population in Pakistan. A second answer is a global modification of the system, relegating to a second stage the ancient value of honour, rather than admit it as the most important one. Education by itself can't root women violence out because most of the parliamentarians are well-educated and they are the ones who took the final decision. The solution is a change of mentality, specially among the youth.

Dear readers,

Sometimes you could think your best friend and your archenemy are completely different for many reasons, but it is not really true, in fact they have many similarities if you try to compare them. First of all, both are usually next to you, they are part of your life, in a positive or negative way, but they are. They also have your attention, doubt to if one of them do something you know some time later, and then you will have your own opinion of the fact, maybe if it is about your bestie you will be pleased of him but if it is bad for you, you might forgive him, or not, and then he could become your archenemy if it upsets you. It is another way to show how your best friend and your archenemy are not very far one to the other in a subjective way. Although your bestie is someone who is there to share with you his day by day and tries to help you when you get into trouble or simply for enjoy your free time and that is not the case of your archenemy. Another similarity between them is that we can be our best friend or our archenemy depending on our behaviour. Maybe relationships are more complex than we thought.

As Martin Luther King said, ' In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends'.

From action to romantic films

Dear readers,

all of us have already taken part of the debate which women and men of all ages all over the planet have created between action an romantic films from immemorial times, but not necessary women support the romantic ones and men the action ones, as most of people thought. When you see an action movie you are aware of what is happening on the screen is not something real, not the same as a romantic film which is based on real life what means that what is coming about, sooner or later could appear in front of your eyes. In addition, I couldn't see what it is wrong on seeing one of the most important human facets, which is able to change the world, as love is. In contrast, action movies are based on something which goes beyond the imagination of a single mind, and usually that kind of films only promote violence, one of the bigger causes of destruction of human being, while romantic films are supporting on feelings, which everybody experiment since we were born. As for me, I prefer romantic films, although sometimes they are not as true as they should be.

If I should have a daughter...

Dear readers,

As you probably already know I love speeches and I would like to share with you one that stunned me last year at my English class when our teacher shows us how Sarah Kay, an example for me and my classmates because she had coursed International Bachelor as I did it last year, was able to express her opinions about a topic in an incredible and clear way. When I finished to see the video I just only want to see it again because I consider it as a work of art created by a very young woman with a powerful voice which was born to be heart.

I simply enjoy what she tells, because she makes you think you can achieve what you propose to do and it doesn't matter where you are or how many the times you try it even if you do not develop what people expect you to do, only what you want to reach. Of course, I like her easiness to draw her experiences up to the public within any modesty.

The exercise I had to do after watching the video was also very interesting, in that moment, we were reading Animal Farm, the famous Aldous Huxley's book, which is full of enriching speeches, and we had to choose one of them and try to reproduce it to the class imitating a famous character without saying the name. At first it looks simple, but once we tried we realized it wasn't. I decided to imitate Sarah Kay and not my classmates but my teacher guessed it.

Trying to be a reviewer

Dear readers,

today, I would like to tell you what I think of  the TV  we see when we're eating or simply resting. As I see it, it represents the most accurate picture of a crazy box. And I say that because, it only displays an abysmal decadence in contents and variety. We only have just to take a look to Telecinco, and see what can it offers us to learn. This week, I've seen an advance to a TV programme in which the interviewer asks one of the most outstanding presenters of this channel about his show, and what does he thinks about it. I was really impressed about what he answers, he said: 'With that amusing programme people just spend time and then forget it, and it is the purpose'. After hearing that, I don't know what to think. I ask myself how this man can sleep well at night.

It's seems to me that it is dangerous, not only for me, because in some way, I already know where to look for a more professional found of information but for our future generations. What are we trying to learn to out children if we only see on TV shows in which girls have to dress like schoolgirls and then a boy have to choose one of them, by reason of how short her skirt is. I feel disappointed when see it, and I have to change the channel, I already feel in that way with my country and with people behind education politics.

He dreams of dreaming what she dreams

Dear readers,

I have woken up earlier today than usual, with a very big smile in my face, because I really like mornings, moreover if it is Friday and It's a sunny day with a lot of light, and the weather could not be better. I am surfing the internet this morning while I was having a coffee next to my cat, which is the one of the best times of the day without any doubt, and I have found a peculiar picture, something that has called my attention. Sometimes occur to me that I see a photo and I try to imagine the story that it hides. I have never written it down because I think it is not something very common, But I don't believe in photo's beauty, I believe in what they pass it on

I think you will take a good photo if you want to tell something, a feeling, a tale about a man who lost his wife last week, and now on Sundays he has the only companionship of pigeons because they remind him of the afternoons sitting with her on a bench at the park looking how sun goes down and they were still together. It could be the true story but it could be not, that's why I think it is singular.

Dear regaders,

I know it is a bit late but I usually write when I feel it, and I have been talking with my best friend this evening because we miss a lot each other. So, I would like to tell you something about her. She is my bestie for many reasons as we have the same signature, the same name and also a similar way to treat people that we love with all our heart and probably for more reasons that I can't express with words. Now, she is in Madrid studying Law with International Relations, meeting new friends and learning a lot but I can't avoid missing her because she is like a sister for me, she has been a big support for me whatever I have need it in the last two years. Last week, my friend and I went to our favourite place that I mentioned in the last post, and when we were waiting in a traffic light, she came towards us and cover my eyes with her hands, I hug her as I have never did before and started to cry, because I didn't know anything about her return and I have been without seen her for a month.  It was something that I didn't expect this evening. If I could choose a present for my birthday, I will choose to keep her as a friend for life.

I let you that photo which was taken on September, she is next to her favourite picture, the Spanish generation of '27. She is very keen on poetry.

Sharanam

Dear readers,

today, It's finally Friday, my favourite day of the week, and while I listen Iván Ferreiro looking at the garden, I've decided to tell you something about what I'm going to do this afternoon. At ten, I'm going to one of the best places I've ever discovered in Murcia. It's a tearoom called Sharanam. I have spent there my best and worse moments alone or with my best friends. When I need some inspiration, I go there and have some arabic desserts with orange blossom tea, and just open a drawer and read something that someone has left there, and immediately I find myself in the middle of all that candles, incenses and natural scents. It's very difficult to describe what I feel when I come to that room surrounded by colour fabrics and dim light. When I go to Sharanam I turn off my mobile phone and enjoy looking how time flies.

First writing process

Dear readers,

today, I would like to share with you a video about Isabel Allende's Writing Process. She is my favourite writer because the variety and power of the topics she includes in her literature. Apart from being a novelist and journalist she is also a storyteller. Passion and persist fight for a woman place out of slavery are some of her goals. In addition to her work as a writer, Allende also devotes much of her time to human rights. She has been considered as the world's most widely read Spanish-language author. In her books she writes about fictional and real topics. In her first and most popular best-seller 'The House of the Spirits' she stirs the entire world with the story of four women generation trashing between liberty and slavery which has been translated into 37 languages. This manuscript started being a letter to her one hundred-year-old grandfather who was dying.

I'm telling you all that information because last year I wrote an essay about the book that I mention before, I finished it very proud after many hours in front of the computer recovering information about the historical line that she followed when she did the book and all the events which took place in Chile during fifty years.

I hope you enjoy the video.
